The Greenwich Peninsula Chaplaincy

Newsletter April 2009

The Greenwich Peninsula Chaplaincy provides chaplains from a variety of faiths on the Greenwich Peninsula: at The O2, on the construction sites, in retail stores, at the food refinery, and for any individual or organisation working on the Peninsula.

The chaplains team has been growing

In 2005 we started with three chaplains visiting the O2 construction site, and quickly added five more. When The O2 opened we recruited three more chaplains, making eleven; and we have recently recruited another six so that we can take up new opportunities for chaplaincy work in the retail parks on and near the Peninsula.

Chaplains visit retail stores, venues in The O2, the food refinery, and the Bovis Lend Lease construction site (where offices for Transport for London and the new Ravensbourne College are being built). Chaplains usually visit weekly, to join in conversations about whatever people want to talk about, but above all to listen (and anything which someone says to a chaplain will only be shared with someone else with their permission).

The chaplains’ role is not to persuade anyone of the truth of any particular religion - but if anyone wants to talk about religion then the chaplain will of course be very happy to do so.

If someone asks to speak to someone of a particular faith then the chaplains will gladly arrange that.

Messages can be left for chaplains on 020 8853 1336. The answering machine on this number is answered daily. Or email: info@greenwich-peninsula-chaplaincy.org.uk
